Oh boy here we go a new venture

The return of the unhappy pom

The Intro: Feel free to skip if this isn’t your first rodeo

This isn’t the first time I’ve spoken about dud products. I made a #weekofduds post on my instagram about this product and others that I tout as being:

Products I bought because I thought they would work well and I wanted them to work well but in the end they didn’t.

I’ve seen many an unliked or unloved product get advertised as being terrible, awful and worth less than nothing. Now I’m sure there are some products out there that are formulated terribly for human skin, but I tend to side more with the group that says hey, not every ingredient or formulation will work for every single person #reality. Some ingredients do well for dry skin, others do well for those with cystic acne and some may only target blackheads. I think simply adding “YMMV” (your mileage may vary) at the end of a post without some thought as to why it worked well or didn’t for you is not useful. That’s why I have my profile on my side bar, but I will try to ensure I put my skin type and concerns in review posts from here on out. Reading a glowing review without knowledge of a person’ s skin type, issues or sensitives may find you buying a product that won’t work for you at all. Which is what I’ve done many times over. Now I’m a little more cognizant of ingredients…. but its pretty evident from my Instagram that packaging lures me in strongly as well.

But since this is not a skincare item, let’s talk hair

My hair type

  • Wavy and according to most charts I see I would be a 2A since my hair likes to be in a loose wave
    • Also my fathers hair was curly and my mom’s Korean hair was basically straight maybe a slight bit of wave; so for my hair to be kind of wavy makes sense to me
  • My hair is dry and my scalp is dry too
  • I have some heat damage due to thermal styling
  • I also tend to lose lots of hair aka I get increased fallout when I’m stressed

Also please enjoy this video where you can see my hair air-dried and under-moisturized

@influenster has these achievement points for their various campaigns. And wow has taught me that I need all the points Also I remembered that I forgot to upload how I use the Etude House strawberry hair rollers to get curls. (Thanks again to @mindyourbeauty for supplying me with enough for my whole head). . . . 1. You want your hair to be slightly damp and combed through using a lotion or something that will smooth the hair and keep it from sticking too much to the foam. 2. For fine hair you can start at the bottom of a section and roll up, but because I have thick stranded/asian hair the rollers just fall down and don’t stay up 3. So I start at the base of the hair and wrap around the strawberry. TWISTING the hair is important if you want to avoid it getting tangled. You can see how I forgot and I had to deal with some wrapping issues. 4. I left these in for about 3 mins, but if you leave it in for longer you will get more defined curls and they will last longer. You can even use a little heat from a dryer too. . . . And there you have it, how I use strawberry rollers to get cersei lannister curls and waves. . . . #everpure #influenster #voxbox #etudehouse #에드워드 #strawberry #딸기 #rasianbeauty #asianbeauty #koreanbeauty #koreanskincare #koreancosmetic #kbeauty #instablogger #instablogging #instabeautyblogging #beautyblogger #beautyblogging #blogger #instareviews #tutorial #instahair #haircare #curls #waves #loreal #loreal @lorealhair I received this hair lotion complimentary for testing

Why did I buy this?

Well I was at Uwajimaya (a West Coast Japanese Grocery store chain) and I saw they sold the whole lineup of Shisheido Tsubaki Shampoo. I figure since I’ve seen it around so much it must be good. maybe. So I narrow it down to the red version which is the extra moist I believe and the pink version which is damage care. Since I figured damage care would make my hair smoother, I went with it. And it was 24 Dollars for everything: two 500ml bottles and a scalp massager.

And look it comes with a Scalp Massager

What’s inside each item

Well I’m not super well versed in shampoo and conditioner, but it seems a fairly standard formulation when I compare it other brands I use or have used

How did I use this?

Well the scalp massager I found to work better during the conditioner phase of hair washing

And look I somehow already broke it

nubblies

I think that when the shampoo didn’t smooth out my hair for the silicone nubblies but rather caused them to get stuck, I should have suspected that this was not going to work for me.

Do people swatch haircare?

Do people swatch haircare?

So I gave up on the scalp massager fairly quickly, but actually stuck with using the shampoo and conditioner for a few months. I don’t wash my hair everyday, but rather a 3-4 times a week. And here are my thoughts

  • Scent: kind of a generic soap scent. A floral aroma that is so often found with laundry detergent or softener. I liked it, thought is was nice
  • Does the shampoo remove oil? Yes very effectively in my opinion
  • Does the conditioner soften the hair? Well I can use it to lightly de-tangle my hair in the shower, but as soon as I’m out of the shower my hair is turned to straw.
  • Did I try to use them separately?
    • Yes I tried the shampoo with other conditioners and it still seemed too stripping for my hair
    • Trying the conditioners with other shampoos basically felt like I wasn’t adding in any moisture back at all.

Is there any hope for these two?

Yes I think there might be. I think that people with very oily hair might actually like the lighter moisture aspect and the thorough cleaning. I think that for hair types that need a lot of moisture such as curly/textured/dry hair this might not be enough moisture though.

And for myself I think that I might try the extra moist red version in the future and I’m not going to be getting this again

  1. I have oily hair and use the extra moist – it smells like camellia ~ I plan to have a review up in a few weeks (I have a camellia centric hair care blog post I am writing)

I find the extra moist to work really well with my hair and doesn’t weigh it down. Have you looked into trying the Innisfree Camellia hair care line? I don’t use the shampoo/conditioner, but I have used the treatment & serum, which I love in the wintertime. They also just came out with special hair packs – volume and another for repair (which I ordered from the korean site, as it isn’t available yet in the US)

  2. Maddie

I think they changed the formulation. Back in 2012 the damage care shampoo/conditioner came in yellow packaging, and it was actually really good. It made my chemical-processed hair feel much softer and smoother. This current stuff in the pink packaging gave me the same experience as you – tangly, straw hair.
